About the job
As a member of a fast-paced multi-disciplinary team, you use your creativity and range of engineering experience to explore solutions to a variety of engineering problems. As a mechanical engineer, you participate in the design, analysis, and prototyping of new concepts. You work in a manufacturing and product oriented development environment and collaborate with vendors and outside sources in order to see parts through to manufacture.
In this role, you will focus on designing and delivering the world's most helpful wearable experience. You will work on shaping the future of Pixel devices and services through some of the most advanced designs, techniques, products, and experiences in consumer electronics. You will bring together the best of Google’s Artificial Intelligence (AI), software, and hardware to build global wearables and create transformative experiences for users across the world.
Responsibilities
• Contribute to the investigation of hardware device failures, including but not limited to: materials, electrical, component quality, design and assembly.
• Apply scientific principles and investigative techniques to identify the fundamental cause(s) of hardware device failures. Utilize techniques such as microscopy, CT, and basic electrical probing to identify failure modes.
• Develop clear failure analysis documentation that can be read by both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Develop and optimize new investigative methods and laboratory procedures to address emerging challenges and improve failure analysis capabilities.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to provide actionable recommendations and support corrective actions either in design, process or both for moderate parts or subsystems from concept to production.
[Requirements]
Minimum qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• 2 years of experience in failure analysis for consumer electronic products.
• Experience working with lab tools (Microscope, CT) and using lab tools to analyze and answer questions.
• Experience in using computer-aided design (CAD) tools such as NX, Creo, CATIA or Solidworks.
Preferred qualifications:
• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience in failure analysis for consumer electronic products.
• Experience with inspection equipment (X-ray, CT, SEM/EDX), FTIR, DSC etc.
• Experience in one or more of the following statistical analysis and simulation tools: Minitab, JMP, MATLAB, Ansys.
• Experience in system integration, including electro-mechanical components (audio, display, camera, antenna, etc.), waterproofing, thermals, grounding, or product architecture.
• Experience with FATP process for consumer electronic products, and with NX and Teamcenter.
